Who We Are:
Rejoice Ministries is a 501c (3) organization that provides children from low income families an excellent dance education with a Christian focus. To create a diverse community by accepting 25% of students from middle and upper income families.
Why It Matters:
Rejoice School of Ballet offers one of the only available, affordable after-school arts programs in East Nashville for children from low income families. The positive environment offered by Rejoice results in increased self-esteem, valuing teamwork, and an improved respect for self and others. The study of ballet teaches children how to move with poise and grace, instills discipline, and sets standards of excellence. Rejoice provides children and their familes with tools for successful living.
Rejoice School of Ballet has entered into a relationship with Nashville Ballet, called Project Plié, an initiative started by Misty Copeland, the only African American soloist with American Ballet Theater. The purpose of Project Plié is to encourage more diversity in ballet. Nashville Ballet currently has one African American principal ballerina in its company, Kayla Rowser. Miss Rowser is one of only 6 African American principal ballerinas in the country. Nashville Ballet is interested in encouraging more African American students to study ballet. Because the majority of Rejoice School of Ballet’s students are African American, this is a mutually beneficial partnership. One of the ways Nashville Ballet has committed to support Rejoice School of Ballet is by allowing their dancers to perform in Rejoice sponsored ballets, providing free tickets for our students to their ballets, holding master classes for Rejoice School of Ballet students, and giving scholarships to low income students to Nashville Ballet Programs.
